Alphonso Davies Misses World Cup Opener with Hamstring Injury

Canada captain Alphonso Davies sat out the World Cup opener against Bosnia as he recovers from a hamstring injury, with the team hopeful of his return during the group stage.

Canada were without captain Alphonso Davies for their World Cup opener against Bosnia & Herzegovina, as the Bayern Munich full-back continues to recover from a hamstring injury sustained in the build-up to the tournament.

Davies is Canada's most influential and most decorated player, and his absence forced head coach Jesse Marsch into a reshuffle, with Maxime Crépeau starting in goal behind a reorganised back line. Despite the setback, Canada dug in to earn a point.

Canada will be hoping to have their captain back as the group stage continues against Qatar on June 18 in Vancouver, with his fitness one of the defining storylines of their campaign.
